Another image for the book "The Secret of Your Name" depicts the summer buffalo hunt which took place in Manitoba. The Red River Metis were skilled buffalo hunters and by the 1870’s their hunts involved hundreds of people. Even though these hunts were large, they did not decrease the population of the buffalo. However, the systematic slaughter by the Americans (to remove the source of food for the Indians) quickly exterminated the buffalo, along with the Metis way of life based on The Hunt.
